The organisations of the Campaign «Peace yes! NATO no!» and the men and women taking part in the Demonstration « Peace yes! NATO no!» declare:
1. NATO is an aggressive military alliance which presently represents the greatest threat to international peace and security,
2. NATO, bent on crushing the rights of the people, violating national sovereignties and undermining international law, holds the world hostage to the arms race, the threat of a nuclear war and terror,
3. NATO is responsible for heinous crimes, for ending

Statement by the “Peace Yes! NATO no!” Campaign
The news item of the [national public TV broadcaster] RTP with the title «The instructions are for peaceful civil disobedience against NATO’s belligerence», as well as other news items that have emerged are an objective distortion of the facts, in what concerns the real promoters and organizers of the «Peace, Yes! NATO, No!» demonstration which will be held on November 20.
The «Peace, Yes! NATO, No!» Campaign:
1- Denounces and rejects any connection of the «Peace, Yes! NATO, No!» Campaign and of the Demonstration which it has convened, is promoting and will organize on November 20, at 15h00 in Lisbon, [...]
Statement by the «Yes to Peace!; No to NATO!» Campaign

1. As is publicly known, the Campaign in defence of peace and against the NATO Summit in Portugal – the «Peace, yes!; NATO, No!» Campaign – has convened, is promoting and will organize a demonstration on November 20, at 3 p.m., in Lisbon, from the Marquês do Pombal to Restauradores Square, in which all peace-loving Portuguese citizens are called upon to participate. The goals, scope and organizers of this demonstration have been broadly publicized, both domestically and internationally, and the relevant authorities have been informed of the demonstration.
2. It is therefore with surprise that the «Peace, Yes!; NATO, No!» Campaign has learnt that other entities -namely the Anti-War, Anti-Nato Platform (PAGAN) – has subsequently announced that they will hold a separate and different demonstration, on the same date and at the same site.
3. In this regards, and expressing the opinions voiced during the plenary meeting of its sponsoring organizations, that was held on October 2, 2010, the «Peace, Yes!; NATO, No!» Campaign informs and makes it known that:

NATO is not welcome in Portugal!

1) In its international relations, Portugal is governed by the principles of national independence, respect for human rights, the right of peoples to self-determination and independence, equality among States, the peaceful settlement of international disputes, non-interference in the internal affairs of other States, and co-operation with all other peoples for the emancipation and progress of mankind.
2) Portugal advocates the abolition of all forms of imperialism, colonialism, and aggression, simultaneous and controlled general disarmament, the dissolution of politico-military blocs, and the setting up of a collective security system, with a view to the creation of an international order capable of safeguarding peace and justice in the relations among peoples.

The Campaign!

NATO will hold its Summit in Lisbon, in November of this year, where a new strategic concept will be adopted.
Over 100 Portuguese organizations have created a Campaign in defense of peace and against the NATO Summit in Portugal – «Yes to Peace! No to NATO!» – which will raise awareness and opposition to NATO and its Summit.
Having already carried out a broad and diversified set of activities since January 2010, the Campaign «Yes to Peace! No to NATO!» has decided to convene:
- A demonstration on November 20, in Lisbon;
- Several political-cultural initiatives to coincide with the NATO Summit in Portugal;
- A youth camp for peace, from July 23 to 25, in Avis, Portugal;
